Ottawa’s third annual Legacy Conference tackles some tough issues

Guest blog by Janelle Zhao, President of The Legacy Conference

We have all heard of the saying in one version or another that failure is a part of success and most of us would nod in agreement.

However, when it comes time to take the plunge into entrepreneurship, to leave behind the safety net that we have come to rely upon, the fear of failing becomes a startling reality. Because of this fear, many of us who are unsatisfied with our current situation would rather stay the same than pursue what we truly want.

At the Legacy Conference at the National Arts Centre on Saturday, November 17, we realized that entrepreneurship is not just about the idea, the plan, or the product, it’s very much about the individual behind the business, who has to work through from this fear & who shows up every morning ready to take on the next challenge.

The conference has been doubling attendance each year we expect to about 250 this year and we’re not shying away from tough questions. In fact our theme is Embracing Failure.

This topic will be openly discussed during our panel discussion with Aydin Mirzaee of Chide. It, Adrian Salamunovic of Canvaspop and Ethan Song of Frank&Oak. They will each be sharing their stories, answering questions related to this theme, as well as answering any other burning questions from the audience.

Aside from the panel discussion, we also have Saul Colt of Zipcar & Freshbooks discussing inspiration vs influence in life, business and beyond.

A creative gala will take place during the day, where attendees will get a chance to play with interactive art and 3D printing, among other activities.

A full line-up of the agenda can be found on the Legacy website.

Despite our theme of failure, it is really a day of celebration. Global Entrepreneurship Week in Ottawa this year has been nothing short of terrific and full of energy, enthusiasm and empowerment.

The Legacy Conference would not be what it is without the amazing support of our community. We are absolutely excited to share this day with you.

Janelle Zhao is President of the Legacy Conference, she is a uOttawa student and works at Chide.it. The conference is a student run effort that provides a platform for those in the young entrepreneur community to share ideas, hopes, fears and dreams.
